Civics in the Margins is a four-year research project exploring how marginalized youth conceptualize and practice citizenship. Using participatory research methods, the study examines the formal and informal educational processes that shape their civic engagement.
Civics in the margins
Civics in the Margins is a four-year research project funded by the Israeli Science Foundation (ISF) and conducted in collaboration with Dr. Aline Muff, an international postdoctoral researcher. This study investigates how marginalized youth understand and engage with citizenship, focusing on the social, educational, and structural factors that shape their civic experiences.
By implementing participatory research methods, the project takes an innovative approach that amplifies voices often excluded from civic life. It not only examines the ways in which formal and informal education influence young people's civic engagement but also explores the potential for empowerment through research participation. Through this work, Civics in the Margins provides valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities for fostering more inclusive civic education.
